McDonnell Diamonds LLC, a New Hampshire, USA company was founded by Daniel McDonnell.  We specialize in custom diamond jewelry, brokering diamonds for resale, and the sourcing of ideal cut, AGS & GIA certified diamonds. For our select clients looking to purchase diamonds, we analyze every diamond and work together with some of the world’s best diamond "cutters" to bring our clients the ultimate in both light performance and value.

USA LOCATION:
Although very few of our clients ever meet us, we are based in tax free Nashua, New Hampshire, USA. We chose to be based out of New Hampshire because it enables us to sell to both the jewelry trade and select individuals (retail) without any additional tax collection and reporting requirements. The majority of our clients are from New England and the New York tri-state area, however we have customers from all over the USA, Europe and Asia.

Nashua is on the border of Massachusetts, about 45 min. from Boston and 3:30 min. from New York City. Because of its tax free status, Nashua is a major retail shopping destination, visited by shoppers from neighboring states including New York and New Jersey as well as by many international travelers. New Hampshire is a great tourist destination, famous for its rugged mountains. In the winter months, New Hampshire has over fifteen ski resorts, including Waterville Valley, Loon Mountain and Cannon Mountain. We are located on the Nashua Airport (private and charter flights), and are close to four major commercial airports from where we arrange transfers for our clients to our offices.

PHILIP MCDONNELL:
Daniel’s and Eoin’s father, Philip McDonnell founded the family Jewelry manufacturing and wholesale business, The Irish Souvenir & Jewelry Company (ISJ) in 1958 in Dublin, Ireland. Philip grew up as part of a large family on a farm in Newry, Northern Ireland. While working in the aerospace industry in the America, Philip discovered a market for Irish jewelry in the USA. In order to ensure quality and supply, he founded a jewelry manufacturing company in Dublin, Ireland. In the 1960’s, the business required him to return back from America to Ireland to run it. The business grew and sold jewelry all over Europe, America and Asia. More than half of the factories production was for the American retail trade. Today, decades later, some of these American retailers are now our diamond clients. The jewelry appeared on dignitaries and celebrities and often appeared in hit movies and TV shows of the day, such as Dallas. Daniel and his two brothers Pierce & Eoin grew up in the business. They received training and worked in every position, from quarrying marble, stone cutting, casting, polishing, gold smiting, stone setting, sourcing gems to business operations and sales.

EOIN MCDONNELL:
After graduating Trinity College, Dublin, Eoin began working full time in the Jewelry business. He partnered with Irish designers and artists to create several new innovative, modern designs and jewelry lines. He introduced new technologies such as CAD and resins into design and development. These new technologies dramatically reduced both cost and time, while increasing the quality of our jewelry.

Within the last decade much of the "Irish souvenir" jewelry and low to mid cost jewelry manufacturing moved to Asia, while labor and production costs spiraled out of control in Ireland. At the same time, because of technology, both the cost and production time for our custom and high end jewelry went down. There were also major improvements in diamond quality, grading and certification, along with new quantification and evaluation techniques.

With all of these improvements in our custom lines and the entire jewelry trade changing, Eoin McDonnell decided to focus on diamonds. Eoin founded Precious, in Dublin, Ireland. In addition to the jewelry manufacturing workshop, Precious has a studio in the Trinity design center in the heart of Dublin city. Precious offers “super ideal cut” diamonds directly from our European cutters set in custom gold and platinum jewelry. Eoin is a certified Diamond High Council of Europe (HRD) Diamond Grader and a certified color diamond specialist. He also responsible for diamond training and education with the Federation of Jewellery Manufacturers of Ireland (FJMI).

DANIEL MCDONNELL:
Daniel came to America in 1986, after graduating with a Diploma in Electronic Engineering from Carlow RTC in Ireland. He arrived in the USA to work on a computer networking project for Assumption College in Worcester Massachusetts. Right after the summer project, he was employed by NEC Technologies, in Massachusetts. Within a few years he was a senior test engineer developing automated computer test equipment. He was then promoted to principle design engineer, responsible for developing NEC’s high performance computers. He spent seven years at NEC and continued his engineering studies in computer hardware, software and semiconductor science, graduating from Central New England College and Northeastern University. In 1994 he moved to Raleigh, North Carolina to work as a system development manager for IBM. After IBM he moved back to Massachusetts where he was a Principal Product Engineer and Server Architect for Digital Equipment’s server product line. While at Digital/Compaq, he, along with his wife Annette, founded a software development and computer services company. Since 1999, he has been self employed, and has had the freedom to work again in the families’ jewelry business.

The pictures you see here are of Daniel McDonnell as a teenager and his father Philip quarrying marble in Connemara, Ireland. Philip McDonnell had a great love of nature and the environment. Many decades ago he ran a “green company” and the factory had a tiny carbon footprint. The quarrying operations would last up to two weeks, after which the land was restored, graded and seeded so as the cattle and sheep could use it for grazing.
